Weekend Away: Seattle 2017

May 31, 2017

Seattle is a city that is constantly evolving. The expansion of Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon, and countless other companies has caused an unprecedented urban growth cycle that has transformed the demographics and landscape of this beautiful city. With the exception of a few years in the mid-1990’s, I have lived my entire life in Seattle, and have had a ringside seat to its change from sleepy Northwest city to booming Pacific Rim metropolis. Put aside its reputation for rain, and you will find a lush city surrounded by mountains and water, with incredible restaurants and friendly people. Here’s the inside scoop on what is new and timeless in Seattle.

Just a short ride from the airport and far (enough) from the glitz of Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo has quietly become a haven for artists, foodies, and sophisticated travelers looking for something a little more authentic. High-design hotels, fabulous farm-to-table experiences, and a hot art scene are just a few of the wonderful things that are lighting up the "other" Cabo.

Puna, Argentina

October 1, 2015

Ever want to completely drop off the grid? I did, kind of by accident. Last year, an unexpected trip to Argentina led to a trek in the desert near the borders of Bolivia and Chile. The Puna is a vast high altitude plain characterized by big blue skies, rainbow hued mountains, volcano fields, and salt flats. What did this mean for us? Wonderful silence. No roads. No people. No wifi. This is where you go to get really away from it all.

Fall Foliage near Sun Mountain Lodge

Methow Valley, Washington

August 24, 2015

The Methow Valley in North central Washington State has been my home away from home since I was a kid. I love it because it is the anti-resort; a community of organic farmers, hard core nordic skiers, cowboys, and drop outs from the west side (Seattle). The weather is dry, the scenery outstanding, and the access to the outdoors second to none. Check it out. If you visit, you might just stay.
